And I understand the need for that validation.

Through the years, I’ve also come to understand that embracing our unfiltered authenticity and allowing ourselves to be misunderstood is important, too.

We can empower ourselves to stand firmly in our truth, and be unbound by that need for external validation.

If people want to understand and have those conversations, I'm all for it. I could talk about it for hours.

Your relationships can be so strong that neither person is trying to change the other.

To me, the coastline of Florida’s Gulf has always been one of the most striking scenes nature can give us. That is why I hold the island as the perfect spot for creating memories. It was an act of courage, stepping into an arena where we shed our layers, literally and metaphorically, and allowed our true selves to emerge through body painting.

A huge driving factor for why I got into photography in general was the faulty mirror, or the “foggy lens” that women see themselves as, because it really hurts me to my core to see people not love themselves.

Each stroke of color on our skin was a testament to our strength and willingness to face our vulnerabilities, and each resulting photograph showed these women how beautifully they shine when they allow themselves to just BE themselves.

Art as a Reflection of Emotion

Embracing my inner child, I found profound healing in the act of painting and being painted.

The colors we chose and the patterns we created were more than just aesthetic choices; they were expressions of our deepest emotions.

On the podcast, Erin and I discuss how this process became a voice for our silent stories waiting to be told.

The Embrace of Sisterhood

Feeling the physical support of other women was nothing short of revolutionary for me.

It reminded me that when we come together without judgment, we cultivate a power that can lift each of us to heights we never imagined.

I don't think up until that moment that I had ever really experienced community over competition. And so to have that was a huge moment of transformation in my life.

Celebrating the Acts of Play and Rest

Through body painting, I learned that celebrating ourselves and embracing leisure isn't counterproductive; it's essential.

High-achieving women often forget that it's okay to pause and simply be.

Every time I get introduced to something that I immediately want to say no to, I have to pause and ask myself, ‘If there was no fear, what would I say?’

What if everything could go right? What would I say? And in this case, it was a yes.

And if you’re still of the opinion that fun and play don’t lead to success in your business - during a journaling activity at this retreat, one of my intentions was “my work is going to bring me to Europe”.

And then last year I was hired as a photographer for an even in Paris. Exactly one year later, my manifestation came true!

When I am playing, when I am resting, and when I am celebrating is when I am booking the most clients, making the most money, doing all of these things.

Embodiment as Personal Alchemy

Transforming our past traumas and challenges into something magical became possible through our intimate engagement with our own bodies.

It was a process of alchemy, turning our complex histories into powerful narratives of resilience and pleasure.

Imagine being in a situation that could feel sexual - but it wasn’t.

Envision having an opportunity to push your boundaries - but only as far as you were ready.

And then see yourself being completely respected with every boundary that you set for yourself.

See yourself being adorned by other women.

It almost rewrites what you're feeling and how you relate to those situations.

Of course, not fully, because there are so many layers to overcoming past trauma, but it was a huge moment for myself and all of the other women at the retreat.

Nurturing Trust in Sacred Spaces

Creating an environment where every woman feels safe and her boundaries are honored was crucial for our body painting workshop.

There's a certain level of trust that’s required to take off clothes (however many the women felt comfortable removing) and let others touch you and put paint on your body.

I know that I wasn’t comfortable at first, but I also feel like you have to do these kind of things, right?

For me, going on a retreat with Erin allows me to feel that safety.

Even if I don't understand, I believe that Erin knows what she’s doing, and I have a very deep trust for her in this work.

In the podcast, we tackle the important conversation about the necessity for such spaces and how they contribute to the healing and growth process.

Bun in the Oven: A Heartwarming In-Home Photography Session

Family portraits make great memories, but what about spontaneous shots in the favorite place of the house? My in-home photography session with this family has shown me the beauty of spontaneity and fun while capturing special moments. There is something unique in those natural photos where people focus more on having fun than how they look. 

As a Florida family photographer, I can tell you that perfectly staged photographs and families aren’t two peas in a pod. While adults understand the concept of photography, children are not preoccupied with such a thing. It is their nature to explore and play, and I always say we should let them do that!

This family decided to go for it and ended up with the best photos! They opted for an in-home photography session in their home’s favorite corner. Their goal was to capture some special moments before the family grew just a tad bit larger. And the outcome was genuinely fantastic! 

Kim had been craving cookies and sweets her whole pregnancy so we brought in that fun element & the kids were all about the fun they all got during the photoshoot. (& it’s always so fun for mom & dad to watch the kids with their genuine happiness and freeze those moments in photographs for a lifetime) As their Sarasota photographer, I enjoyed shooting these moments from different angles while telling a story with their photos. It was all about being together and fun, so it is not surprising that the pictures turned out so beautiful. When you let go of the control of “perfection”, you get the beauty of perfection.

Being part of this family’s in-home photography session was an exciting experience for me. I was honored to create a story with photos for them and mark their special moments authentically!

As a Sarasota family photographer, I can tell you that this area is abundant with gorgeous settings. However, the perfect location does not always mean beautiful scenery. You need a place that will also depict your personality and fit into your idea for your family photo session. 

Throughout my photography experience, I have worked in numerous locations and am happy to share the ones I consider best for families. I understand how difficult it can be to pick out the perfect photoshoot spot, so I hope you will find my suggestions helpful. I have included something for every taste, meaning you will surely find the one you are looking for!

Amazing Spots for Your Family Photoshoot in Sarasota

Sarasota and the surrounding areas are known to be gorgeous any time of the year…. but their beauty makes it difficult for families to choose the perfect spot for framing their authentic memories. 

If you are aiming for versatility and uniqueness, here are some gorgeous locations where you can create amazing pictures.

Celery Fields

Imagine a photo shoot in the heart of nature, surrounded by all kinds of trees and majestic wildlife. Feels surreal, doesn’t it? Well, take your whole family to the Celery Fields and let your dreams become a reality!

This place has been gaining a lot of traction in the last couple of years - for all the right reasons! As the hotspot for nature enthusiasts, the Celery Fields are comprised of deep marshlands and shallow pools, providing a serene atmosphere that couldn’t be found anywhere else in Sarasota.

Let your kids roam wild amid the grass fields and I’ll capture their freedom in all of its glory. You can easily have a boho-inspired shoot with the whole family and you don’t even have to bother about the backdrop. Nature has effortlessly created the perfect one! One last tip - get here at sunset and thank me later!

Phillippi Estate Park

If you strive for a natural setting for your family photography in Sarasota, FL, then you should absolutely consider Philippi Estate Park. This large park has versatile features, so you can decide whether you want to go for a more casual or formal style. I love capturing moments in this place because the results are so unique and different each time. 

You can use the farmhouse area for creative casual photos or the mansion for more sophisticated ones. I should not forget to mention the lake as a majestic backdrop that can add a special touch to your family shots. 

Since the Philippi Estate Park is quite big, (it’s great for both your immediate family & for extended families) I encourage families to take more relaxed photographs. The area is ideal for spontaneous photo sessions, giving you amazing results. It’s a great place for enjoying your favorite outdoor activities with your kids! If your goal is fun family photography, then you should not think twice about this location!

Siesta Key (Access 8)

When you want paradise-like features, you want Siesta Key! The sea's breathtaking emerald color and white sandy beach will give you the ideal setting for a memorable photoshoot. The beach is proclaimed the second-best in the US, so it is unsurprising that so many Siesta Key photographers are going to this location for their majestic projects.

As a Sarasota family photographer, I can say that the features of this heavenly place will give families exactly what they want. Whether you want to shoot your maternity journey or have special moments captured on camera with your young ones, you can be sure this spot has the versatility you need. 

However, if you need more than just the beach scenery, or you want something more authentic for your photo session, you can easily explore the area and find a spot you like. Siesta Key offers great local boutiques and restaurants for after your session too!

Anna Maria Island (Bean Point)

If you are keen on beach photos with your family, Anna Maria Island (bean point) is another option. This Florida island is one of the most scenic spots in the state, and it is undoubtedly one of the most commonly chosen locations for photo sessions. As an Anna Maria Island photographer, I can tell you that opting for this place for your family photographs will not be a mistake. 

The stunning waters of the sea and the white beaches will create a fantastic background for your special moments. If you are lucky, you might even see some dolphins playing in the distance (I’ve even captured this during some family photoshoots! Its rather unbelievable!) You’re almost guaranteed to see a flock of birds and capture them in the background! It is an amazing experience for children and a breathtaking setting for adults. If fun and spontaneous photos are your thing, then the atmosphere of the island will offer you what you need! 

Longboat Key

Families looking for Sarasota beach photos will find Longboat Key breathtaking. I am not only talking about scenic surroundings, the rocks & driftwood but also amenities you will not find elsewhere in one place. Longboat Key is home to luxurious restaurants as well as spectacular resorts. The place offers excellent water sports for adventurous souls, such as kayaking and canoeing. (think… a place to stay before and after photos, a place to fall in love with)

Longboat Key is located on white sand beaches that spread 12 miles along the coast. Just imagine your family photographs in such beautiful scenery! When shooting in such ambiance, I always encourage families to be more relaxed instead of going for staged photos. Sarasota beach photos ask for worry-free activities like playing in the water or the sand.

If you want the authentic effect, then you need to let yourself have fun during your photo session and abandon staged posing altogether. Your children will enjoy it, and it will be a perfect bonding experience!

Home Sweet Home: Indoor Family Photoshoot Ideas

As a family photographer, I've had the privilege of witnessing and documenting countless beautiful moments, but there's something incredibly special about capturing a family's memories within the walls they've called home. Recently, I had the honor of photographing a heartwarming in-home lifestyle session for a family about to embark on a new chapter in their lives.

The setting was their home located in Winter Garden, FL – the place where they brought both of their babies into the world, a space filled with countless memories and milestones. As they prepared to move to a new home states away, the desire to freeze these moments in time became even more poignant.

The morning began with a warm welcome from the family & of course the two puppies. Laughter echoed through the rooms as the children played and explored their familiar surroundings. The soft morning light filtered through the windows, creating a gentle ambiance that set the tone for the session.

The rooms told a story of growth, love, and countless bedtime stories. As I captured the tender moments of the family cuddling together, I couldn't help but feel the warmth and love that radiated from that room.

We embraced the coziness of the family's favorite gathering spots. The children played with their toys while mom and dad shared loving glances. The candid shots revealed the authenticity of their bond, showcasing the unfiltered joy that comes from being together.

The kitchen, a hub of shared meals and family conversations, became another focal point. Amidst the aroma of morning coffee, we captured the family baking together, a cherished tradition that will soon find a new home in their new kitchen.

As we explored each room, the session unfolded as a visual journey through the family's history. From the staircase where the children took their first steps to the backyard where countless afternoons were spent playing, every corner held significance.
